Wanted Cyber Fraudster Arrested at Kolkata Airport While Attempting to Flee to Dubai

A wanted cyber fraudster was apprehended at Kolkata Airport while trying to escape to Dubai, facing multiple charges in Karnataka.

Kolkata, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : A wanted cyber fraud suspect was arrested at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata on November 3 while attempting to flee to Dubai. The individual, identified as Sheikh Sabir, is facing multiple charges in Karnataka related to cyber fraud.

Sheikh Sabir had been under surveillance by the Karnataka police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) due to his involvement in several fraud cases. After evading capture for an extended period, a lookout circular was issued against him.

According to officials, immigration authorities intercepted Sabir early Tuesday morning as he was preparing to board a flight to Dubai. He was handed over to the police at the airport, where Bidhannagar police formally arrested him.

The Karnataka police have been notified, and officials are now initiating legal procedures to obtain his transit remand for further investigation in Karnataka.

A senior officer from Bidhannagar police stated that Sabir had planned to escape from Kolkata to Dubai. His capture occurred when immigration officials recognized him due to the lookout notice. Following his arrest, he was taken to the police station at the airport, and the Karnataka police were alerted.

Investigators allege that Sheikh Sabir was part of a large cyber fraud network, involved in financial scams that included extortion and blackmail through threats of digital arrest. Following numerous complaints, a case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Bengaluru.

After Sabir went missing, authorities issued a lookout notice, leading to his eventual detention at the Kolkata airport. The process to transfer him to Karnataka is currently underway, with Bidhannagar police providing full cooperation to investigative agencies.
