Beijing, May 29: On May 27, during a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York, Wang Yi, a member of the Central Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party and Foreign Minister, engaged in discussions with leaders from various strategic and business sectors in the United States.
Wang Yi emphasized that during the Security Council meeting, all parties unanimously reaffirmed the core objectives of the UN Charter, called for the restoration of the UN’s authority, and advocated for the maintenance of multilateralism. He stated that revitalizing the UN begins with revitalizing the Security Council, which hinges on coordination and cooperation among its permanent members. In this context, the direction of China-US relations is crucial. Facts have demonstrated that the China-US relationship extends beyond bilateral boundaries, impacting global peace and the future of humanity.
Wang Yi noted that Chinese and American leaders had a historic meeting in Beijing, where they exchanged open, in-depth, constructive, and strategic ideas on major issues related to China-US relations and global peace and development. Both sides agreed to define their relationship as “creative, strategic, and stable,” focusing on cooperation while limiting competition, managing differences, and fostering peace, thereby seeking a correct path together in the new era of major powers.
He stressed that Taiwan’s independence is not conducive to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. Only by adhering to the One-China principle and the spirit of the three joint communiqués between China and the US can peace in the Taiwan Strait be ensured and conflicts avoided.
Wang Yi expressed China’s desire to work with the US to implement the significant agreements reached by both heads of state and to take concrete steps toward realizing “creative, strategic, and stable relations” as soon as possible.
American participants acknowledged that US-China relations are currently the most significant bilateral relationship in the world. The Chinese economy has demonstrated strong resilience and vitality, and American companies are optimistic about the Chinese market, eager to increase investment and cooperation in China.
