Mumbai, April 10: Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest telecom operator in India, is experiencing a wave of positive developments. The company has expanded its network with new sites and reported an increase in average revenue per user (ARPU). Recently, Vi has made significant investments in capital expenditure (capex) and has launched 5G services in additional regions, including Chennai. In February 2026, the company also welcomed new customers, contributing to a growing subscriber base for both 4G and 5G services. Although the growth rate is gradual, it is nonetheless a positive sign.
Vodafone Idea’s CEO, Abhijit Kishore, stated, “In terms of the number of sites added, data usage, revenue, EBITDA (core operating profit), average revenue per user (ARPU), and broadband subscribers, Vi is moving in the positive direction.” He emphasized that the company’s investments are strategically aligned to foster growth.
Recently, Vodafone Idea invested approximately Rs 16,000 crore in capex, adding around 117,000 new broadband sites, which has resulted in 48% 4G population coverage across India. The company has also seen a decrease in its churn rate in priority circles. These incremental improvements are essential for long-term success.
In the December 2025 quarter, Vi reported an average data usage of 19.2GB per month among its 4G and 5G users, marking a 26.7% year-over-year growth. The 4G and 5G user base reached 128.5 million, up from 126 million year-over-year. Furthermore, Vi is enhancing its existing networks by upgrading technology and modernizing infrastructure.
The company is striving to turn its fortunes around, and the introduction of 5G in new locations could play a crucial role in this endeavor. However, the core network experience for customers in India still predominantly relies on the 4G layer.
