Chinese Delegation Showcases Achievements for Persons with Disabilities at the UN

Beijing, June 12: From June 9 to 11, the 19th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was held in New York.

The Chinese delegation actively participated, sharing their insights and promoting China’s concepts and practices regarding the implementation of the convention and the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. They aimed to present an image of a responsible major nation.

Representatives from the China Disabled Persons’ Federation reported during relevant meetings that China has integrated the welfare of persons with disabilities into its national development framework. The country has continuously strengthened its social security and service systems, leading to improvements in the welfare of the disabled community. During the conference, a Chinese candidate was successfully elected as a member of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

China also organized exhibitions at the UN showcasing cultural creative works by persons with disabilities and achievements in poverty alleviation, highlighting results from initiatives during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period.

Adopted in 2006, this convention serves as a key international legal document for the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.
