New Delhi, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Vikas Katiyal, a director at the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), has been appointed as the manager of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming series against the West Indies. This announcement was made by the state association on Wednesday.
The series will feature three One Day Internationals (ODIs) on September 27, September 30, and October 3, followed by five T20 matches scheduled for October 6, 9, 11, 14, and 17.
Shubman Gill will lead the ODI team, which includes senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Shreyas Iyer will captain the T20 team, which boasts a mix of experienced players and emerging talents, including Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryaanshi, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma.
The DDCA congratulated Katiyal on his new role, calling it a moment of pride for the association and the cricketing community in Delhi. In a statement, they expressed their support: “This is a proud moment for the entire DDCA family, as one of our directors has been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the Indian cricket team. We congratulate Katiyal on this prestigious appointment and wish him and Team India success in the upcoming series against the West Indies.”
This appointment comes as India aims to maintain its strong record against the West Indies. Historically, India has had the upper hand in ODIs, winning 72 out of 142 matches played between the two teams, while the West Indies have claimed 64 victories. Additionally, India has won 19 out of 30 T20 matches against the West Indies, with one match resulting in no outcome.
