
Aizawl, March 7: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan will address the 20th convocation ceremony of Mizoram University on Saturday, officials announced on Friday.
After speaking at the 8th convocation of Nagaland University in Kohima, Vice President Radhakrishnan arrived in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, on Friday afternoon.
On Saturday, he will serve as the chief guest at the convocation ceremony of Mizoram University. Upon his arrival at Lengpui Airport, he received a warm welcome from Mizoram’s Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), School Education Minister Vanlalthlana, and other senior officials. He was also given a formal guard of honor.
Later, upon reaching Lok Bhavan, he was formally welcomed by the Governor, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Home Minister K. Sapdanga, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister C. Lalzawivunga, and other dignitaries.
On Friday evening, the Mizoram government organized a special cultural program and dinner in honor of the Vice President at Lok Bhavan.
After attending the Mizoram University convocation, Vice President Radhakrishnan will depart for Tripura to be the chief guest at the 14th convocation of Tripura University.
In Agartala, he will meet several ‘Lakshmi Didis’ and members of self-help groups (SHGs) at the International Trade and Fair Center located on the outskirts of the city. He will also pay tribute at the Albert Ekka Memorial Park in Lichubagan. The police have made extensive security arrangements for the Vice President’s visit to Tripura.
An official from Tripura University stated that the convocation could not be held in the past two years, 2024 and 2025. During the ceremony, eligible students will be awarded certificates, degrees, gold medals, and PhD degrees.
In the upcoming convocation, 283 students from various departments will receive gold medals, while 149 researchers will be awarded PhD degrees. Vice President Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the convocation ceremony at the university campus located in Suramaninagar, on the outskirts of the state capital, Agartala.
Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, and the university’s Chancellor Ahmed Javed will also address the gathering.
