Jaipur, April 26: Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi attributed his remarkable innings to a fearless mindset and trust in his natural game. His explosive batting helped RR set a massive score of 228/6 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 36th match of IPL 2026.
The 15-year-old scored 103 runs off just 37 balls, hitting 12 sixes and 5 fours. Reflecting on his aggressive start, Vaibhav mentioned that there was no specific plan, even for hitting a six off the very first ball.
After his innings, Suryavanshi told broadcasters, “There was no particular plan to hit a six on the first ball, but we had discussed before the match. Yash Bhaiya (Yashasvi Jaiswal) said we should play freely today. If we get an opportunity from the first ball, we should trust our game, and that’s exactly what happened.”
Vaibhav further explained that his attitude in the initial overs, where he hit four sixes, was completely natural. “I wasn’t overthinking. I just played according to the ball. The wicket felt good, so I trusted my game.”
He also shared that he keeps his preparation simple yet focused, relying heavily on visualization before stepping onto the field. “I think about which bowlers are in the opposing team. I visualize which shots I can play against them and how big the boundaries are. I try to imagine all of this.”
Regarding the pitch conditions, the player felt it was a good surface for batting, although bowlers received some assistance early on. He stated, “The wicket is good. The ball was coming onto the bat nicely. There was some movement with the new ball, and the fast bowlers got a bit of help. Overall, it’s a good wicket.”
After setting a substantial score, Suryavanshi believes the team is in a strong position to defend it. He said, “This is a good score, sir. Now we will try to defend it, bowl with discipline, and implement the plans we have made.”
