
Jaipur, April 26: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 15-year-old opener for Rajasthan Royals (RR), made headlines on Saturday by scoring a remarkable century in just 36 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This achievement marks the third-fastest century in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
The record for the fastest century in IPL belongs to Chris Gayle, who scored a century in just 30 balls while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors on April 23, 2013. Following Gayle, Suryavanshi previously held the second-fastest record, reaching his century in 35 balls against Gujarat Titans on April 28, 2025. Yusuf Pathan and Heinrich Klaasen have also achieved this feat in 37 balls each.
In the match held at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Suryavanshi faced 37 balls, hitting 12 sixes and 5 fours to score 103 runs. He formed a crucial partnership with Dhruv Jurel, adding 112 runs for the second wicket in just 62 balls. Suryavanshi reached his second IPL century with a flurry of runs, scoring a fifty in just 15 balls and completing his century on the 36th ball.
Batting first after losing the toss, RR posted a total of 228 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryavanshi managed to score 40 runs in just 14 balls before Jaiswal was dismissed for 10 runs off 8 balls.
Suryavanshi then partnered with Jurel to propel the team to a score of 152, with Jurel contributing 51 runs off 35 balls, including 1 six and 8 fours.
