
Rishikesh, May 19: On Monday night, three coaches of the Ujjaini Express derailed near the Khanda village resettlement area in Rishikesh. Fortunately, no passengers were on board at the time of the incident.
Railway authorities have launched a relief and rescue operation. Heavy cranes are being used to remove the severely damaged coaches from the tracks. Disturbing images from the scene have emerged, highlighting the severity of the derailment.
The accident was so severe that one coach completely detached from the tracks and was left hanging outside. Questions have arisen regarding the train’s operations. The derailment occurred around 9:23 PM while the train’s track was being changed in the station yard. Following the incident, a large crowd gathered on the tracks, prompting GRP personnel to manage the situation and clear the area.
In a related incident, a fire broke out in a coach of the Rajdhani Express in Kota, Rajasthan, early on May 17. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in that incident either. The fire occurred in an AC coach with 68 passengers aboard.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Kota division stated that all passengers were safe and there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The 12431 Rajdhani Express had departed from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and was scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi at 12:30 PM on Sunday.
Additionally, there was another fire incident involving two AC coaches of the Hyderabad-Jaipur Special Express at the Nampally Railway Station.
