Uttarakhand Police Solve Blind Murder Case, Arrest Suspect After 45 Days

Dehradun, July 1: The Chamoili police in Uttarakhand have successfully cracked a ‘blind murder’ case linked to a local resident, arresting the suspect nearly a month and a half after the crime occurred.

The victim, Rajendra Singh, went missing on May 18 while leaving for work. His body was discovered days later by local residents, prompting the police to launch an investigation. The case was complex, presenting significant challenges as there was no evidence of personal animosity or any suspects initially identified.

However, leveraging information gathered by a forensic team and conducting extensive search operations, the Chamoili police managed to unravel the ‘murder mystery’ and apprehended the suspect on Wednesday.

Rajendra Singh, a resident of Devpuri village, left home for work on May 18. Hours later, his mobile phone was found switched off, and he lost contact, raising alarm among his family. They filed a missing person report with the Gairsain police, who initiated a search with the help of search teams, but no leads were found.

Almost a week later, on May 23, a body was discovered in a ravine near Devpuri village. The police, along with a forensic team, examined the crime scene and the body. Rajendra Singh had been reported missing.

Both of his legs and one arm were bound with ropes. The forensic team recovered his mobile phone, slippers, and a water bottle, leading to the registration of a murder case based on scientific evidence.

Given the seriousness of the crime, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under the leadership of a Deputy Superintendent of Police to conduct a thorough investigation. The SIT inspected the crime scene, analyzed technical evidence, and followed leads gathered by a dog squad. After focusing on suspects and conducting continuous interrogations, they arrested Devendra Singh, a resident of Chaudhadar village, on charges of murder.

While the complete sequence of events leading to the murder and the suspect’s motives have yet to be fully disclosed, the arrest has brought some closure to this unresolved case, which could have otherwise been listed among ‘missing’ cases.

On Wednesday, the suspect was presented in court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. Further inquiries will be conducted regarding the motives behind the murder and the potential involvement of others.
