Uttar Pradesh Government to Provide Three Sarees Annually to Anganwadi Workers

Lucknow, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that Anganwadi workers and helpers will receive three sarees each year. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday. Previously, these workers received only two sarees annually.

This new policy will benefit approximately 380,290 Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state. The government plans to invest around ₹19.02 crore for this initiative. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna stated that there are currently 190,145 sanctioned Anganwadi centers, each with an approved worker and helper position, leading to the total number of beneficiaries.

Under the existing scheme, funded by both the central and state governments in a 60:40 ratio, workers received two sarees per year. The third saree will now be provided solely by the state government at a cost of ₹500 per saree, bringing the estimated total expenditure to ₹19,01,45,000.

Anganwadi workers are required to wear a designated uniform at their workplaces. The decision to provide an additional saree takes into account regular use, washing, adverse weather conditions, and the possibility of the saree becoming soiled or damaged. Through Anganwadi centers, these workers play a crucial role in delivering supplementary nutrition to children aged six months to six years, as well as to pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls aged 14 to 18 in aspirational districts.
