Lucknow, May 15: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken significant action against private hospitals that failed to comply with the standards set under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasized that any negligence in providing quality healthcare to beneficiaries will not be tolerated.
Archana Verma, CEO of the scheme, stated that Ayushman Bharat is a crucial initiative aimed at providing free and quality healthcare services to economically weaker and marginalized communities.
Under the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, corrective measures are being implemented to enhance the scheme’s effectiveness, transparency, and reliability. The process for hospital accreditation and quality assessment has been made more stringent.
Verification of listed hospitals is being conducted through the Hospital Empanelment Module (HEM) portal based on established standards. The new regulations mandate hospitals to meet 35 essential criteria, including registration certificates, fire safety NOCs, necessary infrastructure, and the educational qualifications of medical staff.
The CEO reported that the National Health Authority and State Health Agency have provided support to hospitals at every level through emails, calls, messages, correspondence, and virtual meetings. As a result, over 95% of hospitals have successfully migrated to the HEM 2.0 portal.
However, some private hospitals failed to complete the process within the stipulated timeframe. Despite multiple opportunities provided by the Yogi government, around 200 private hospitals did not comply with the standards. These include hospitals from districts such as Agra, Aligarh, Prayagraj, Amethi, and many others.
In response to this non-compliance, the government has halted payments to 100 hospitals and suspended approximately 100 others from the scheme. This action aims to ensure that beneficiaries of the Ayushman scheme receive only standard-based and quality medical services.
The Yogi government has also instructed all listed hospitals to obtain NABH quality certification. Regular audits and monitoring of hospitals at the state and district levels are being conducted to prevent any irregularities. The government is placing a strong emphasis on maximizing the use of technology in healthcare services.
To enhance the transparency and efficiency of patient management, directives have been issued for the implementation of an ABDM-enabled HMIS system in hospitals. Additionally, an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system is being gradually implemented to securely maintain patients’ health records and streamline treatment processes.
Training is being provided periodically to hospitals for better portal operation and health service delivery. Strict monitoring is also in place for cases involving improper use of doctors’ qualifications or details, with appropriate actions being taken as per regulations.
