US Proposes $8.6 Billion Arms Sale to Four Arab Nations Amidst Regional Tensions

Washington, May 2: Amidst a fragile peace in the Middle East, news of a significant arms deal from the United States has emerged. The U.S. administration has proposed the sale of over $8.6 billion worth of weapons to Israel, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, bypassing Congressional review.

According to the U.S. State Department, as reported by Xinhua, the proposed sale includes Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems, Air and Missile Defense Replenishment Services, and an Integrated Battle Command System.

In a related development, President Donald Trump informed lawmakers that the conflict with Iran is “over,” thus exempting the administration from the usual deadline for military action approval from Congress. The White House has sent a letter regarding this matter to Congress.

Politico reported that in a letter to Congressional leaders, Trump stated, “There has been no firing between the U.S. and Iran since April 7, 2026.” He added, “The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have now ceased.”

Xinhua noted that this move aims to quell the debate over whether Congressional approval was necessary for this military action. Under the War Powers Resolution of 1973, the President must end military action within 60 days after notifying Congress of the use of military force, unless Congress grants approval to continue.

Meanwhile, Trump expressed uncertainty regarding negotiations with Iran. He warned that he is “not satisfied” with the current proposals, keeping both diplomatic and military options open.

Before departing on Marine One, Trump told reporters, “They want to make a deal, but I am not satisfied with it, so we will see what happens.” He described the Iranian leadership as fragmented and unable to reach a consensus, stating, “They all want to make a deal, but they are all tangled up,” and remarked that the leadership is “very disorganized” and plagued by internal disagreements.
