Patna, July 18: Former Union Minister and President of the National Lok Morcha (RLM), Upendra Kushwaha, has raised concerns about the weakening leadership of the opposition party, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), due to internal issues.
While addressing party workers in Rohtas, Kushwaha highlighted the critical political timing, especially with the Bankipur Assembly by-election underway. He questioned the public absence of Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition.
Kushwaha stated that it is the constitutional duty of the opposition leader to expose government shortcomings and address public issues. However, he accused Tejashwi Yadav of being largely absent from the political scene, leaving many in Bihar unaware of his whereabouts.
He clarified that while a person’s movement is a matter of personal freedom, the role of the opposition leader falls under public accountability.
“RJD is already a fragmented party. Constitutionally, its leader holds the position of leader of the opposition in the Assembly, yet they are nowhere to be seen. What can be expected from a party when its leader is missing? This is exactly what is happening,” Kushwaha remarked.
He further alleged that Tejashwi Yadav’s absence hinders his understanding of the concerns of ordinary citizens in Bihar and prevents him from effectively raising these issues.
The RLM chief also claimed that there is internal dissent within the RJD, leading party workers and leaders to leave the organization.
Kushwaha’s comments came shortly after senior RJD leader and state spokesperson, Mitunjay Tiwari, resigned from all party positions and primary membership, citing humiliation and neglect within the party. Tiwari, considered close to RJD leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, expressed his grievances during his resignation.
These remarks have intensified the political tug-of-war ahead of the Bihar Assembly session and the Bankipur by-election, where both the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition are striving to strengthen their political positions.
