New Delhi, February 12: The Uttar Pradesh Assembly presented its budget for the financial year 2026-27 on Wednesday. Avadhesh Prasad, a Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party (SP), labeled this budget as one marking the end of the Yogi government.
In an interview in New Delhi, Prasad asserted that the upcoming budget will belong to the SP. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, the government will be formed, ensuring development for all and strengthening the glorious history of Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized that when Yadav becomes Chief Minister, Ayodhya will witness significant development that the world will notice.
Regarding the UP budget, Prasad criticized it for lacking provisions for farmers and laborers. He pointed out that the MGNREGA scheme, recently renamed, still has pending wages for workers. In his parliamentary constituency, around 20,000 to 22,000 laborers have pending applications. Despite working diligently, even in poor health, they have not received their payments. He questioned whether this budget would address their outstanding dues.
On the central government’s new guidelines regarding “Vande Mataram,” Prasad welcomed the initiative. He stated that “Vande Mataram” is a song that has been sung for a long time. However, he urged both the central and state governments to embody the spirit, message, and intent of “Vande Mataram.” He highlighted that the song played a crucial role in India’s freedom, with contributions from all communities and religions.
In response to Mohan Bhagwat’s statement about awarding the Bharat Ratna to Veer Savarkar, Prasad emphasized that the country faces pressing issues that need resolution first. He noted that millions of young people, who are the nation’s greatest asset, are graduating from prestigious colleges yet remain unemployed. This situation has led to despair among youth, with some even contemplating extreme measures. He stressed the need for serious discussions on this matter.
Discussing the Agniveer scheme, Prasad remarked that it offers only a four-year job. He questioned the mindset of young individuals joining the army under such conditions. In the past, regular recruitment inspired parents to send their children to serve the nation with pride. However, he expressed concern about the sentiment of youth who now face uncertainty after just four years. He called for regular recruitment in the armed forces.
Prasad also highlighted the need to discuss the promise of doubling farmers’ incomes. He warned that the India-U.S. trade deal could harm farmers, jeopardizing self-reliance and potentially devastating the dairy industry under U.S. pressure. He suggested that Bhagwat should address these critical issues.
