BRICS Parliamentary Forum Marks Success, Shashi Tharoor Praises Indias Role

The BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi saw political discussions intensify, with Shashi Tharoor highlighting Indias international contributions.

New Delhi, October 27 (Daily Kiran) : The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held in New Delhi has sparked significant political discourse, particularly surrounding an upcoming rally proposed by the Congress party. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor hailed the forum as a success, emphasizing India’s pivotal role in international cooperation.

BJP leaders, including MP Anurag Thakur and Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, also noted the conference as an important opportunity for India. They raised concerns about the potential impact of the Congress rally on local businesses. In response, Tharoor asserted that Congress is not against small traders and that it is their duty to voice the public’s concerns as the opposition.

Tharoor described the BRICS summit as a highly successful event where representatives from various countries engaged in discussions to finalize a joint declaration. He noted that while one country had specific demands, consensus was ultimately reached on all issues, and India peacefully handed over the presidency to China. Tharoor expressed optimism for India’s continued role in fostering international collaboration through BRICS and parliamentary diplomacy.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta echoed Tharoor’s sentiments, stating that the two-day forum, led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, showcased India’s significance on the global stage. The event included participation from various state assembly speakers, further highlighting India’s stature.

Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal emphasized the forum as a valuable opportunity for India, allowing for the sharing of discussions and successful initiatives among member countries. He pointed out that India has made considerable progress in this area, helping other nations understand its achievements.

Anurag Thakur also labeled the event a success, asserting that India is increasingly taking the lead on international platforms rather than merely following other nations. He cited the successful G-20 summit as an example of this shift.

Regarding concerns over the proposed Congress rally’s impact on local traders, Tharoor reiterated that the party supports small businesses and desires a conducive environment for them to thrive. He mentioned that if the government addresses Congress’s demands related to citizens’ constitutional rights, it could lead to a resolution of protests.

Tharoor clarified that Congress does not intend to disrupt anyone’s life. He noted that during the previous shutdown, many people were shopping, and the party is left with no choice but to hold its event at Ramleela Maidan due to a lack of permissions elsewhere. He stressed that raising public voices is a fundamental responsibility of the opposition.

In contrast, Minister Meghwal accused Congress of attempting to create chaos through its planned rally. He referred to opposition activities at the Akashvani Bhawan and a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu, suggesting that the opposition failed to provide evidence when requested. He warned against any attempts to intimidate the Supreme Court during hearings.

Meghwal raised concerns about the upcoming Diwali festival, noting that traders are worried about potential disruptions to their businesses. He criticized Rahul Gandhi, claiming he is indifferent to traders and the nation’s progress, suggesting that Gandhi aims to lead the country astray.

Thakur also accused Congress and the opposition of spreading confusion and tarnishing India’s image. He referenced the anti-Sikh riots in Delhi on November 1, questioning whether the opposition intended to signal something with that date. He condemned incidents of arson and violence abroad, asserting that such actions would not be tolerated in India, and emphasized that the Delhi police are taking necessary measures to maintain law and order.
