
New Delhi, March 10: The National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, celebrated its 49th Annual Day on Monday at its auditorium in Munirka, New Delhi.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, presided over the event as the chief guest. Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services, was also present as a distinguished guest. The program highlighted the institute’s contributions to strengthening public health systems, capacity building, and research in health and family welfare.
In his address, Prataprao Jadhav emphasized the importance of bolstering public health institutions and underscored NIHFW’s role in developing skilled health professionals and supporting national health programs. He stated that the government is expanding digital health infrastructure under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Primary health services are being strengthened through health and wellness centers, alongside efforts to enhance vaccination initiatives, introduce new vaccines, and improve disease surveillance systems.
Dr. Sunita Sharma praised the institute’s ongoing contributions to public health research, training, and policy support for the Government of India. She noted that NIHFW has played a crucial role in enhancing the capacity of India’s health workforce and effectively implementing national health programs.
During the presentation of the annual report, NIHFW Director Dr. Sunil Vilasrao Gitte highlighted the institute’s key achievements over the past year, including advancements in public health training, research initiatives, and various collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening the country’s health system.
The event also featured the formal release of the institute’s annual publications, including ‘Dharana,’ the HPPI Journal, and ‘Prospects of Placement Cell,’ by the esteemed guests. Awards were presented to outstanding staff, students, and achievers in sports for their dedication and excellent performance.
Cultural programs presented by students showcased the vibrant academic environment of the institute.
The Annual Day celebration reaffirmed NIHFW’s commitment to advancing public health education, research, and policy collaboration, aimed at improving health service delivery and public health across the nation. The institute’s Dean, Prof. V.K. Tiwari, expressed gratitude to all distinguished guests and attendees.
