New Delhi, March 13: In a significant initiative to clean the Yamuna River, the capital city of India is ramping up its drain cleaning efforts. On Friday, the use of advanced excavation machines, capable of operating on both land and water, commenced at the Badusarai Bridge and Pankha Road drains.
These modern machines are equipped to swiftly remove silt, debris, and water hyacinth from drains and reservoirs, making the cleaning process faster and more efficient. This will enhance water flow, expedite drain cleaning, and significantly help in reducing waterlogging issues in the surrounding areas.
In the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the machine was inaugurated for desilting at the Pankha Road drain. The introduction of these machines will ensure that the cleaning of the Pankha Road drains is carried out promptly and effectively. Additionally, this system will strengthen Delhi’s drainage infrastructure.
Delhi’s Education Minister and Janakpuri MLA Ashish Sood emphasized that the government is continuously working towards a clean and waterlogging-free Delhi. He noted that a key promise made during the assembly elections was to beautify Pankha Road, keep it clean and free of waste, and address the long-overdue cleaning of the Pankha Road drain.
Sood pointed out that the lack of cleaning in this drain had led to waterlogging and foul odors during the monsoon season for local residents. He mentioned that since the formation of the government, efforts have been ongoing to fulfill this promise. New walls have been constructed for the drain, and initial cleaning and beautification of a section were completed within the first 100 days.
He added that extensive dredging and cleaning work is now being carried out using MVPs machines, which will increase the depth of the drain and enhance its internal aesthetics. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to clean the service lane and beautify it with hanging gardens and modern lighting. Sood expressed confidence that under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, this significant electoral promise made to the people of West Delhi will soon be fulfilled. Several senior officials, including Cabinet Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, were also present during the event.
