Paris, March 15: The Pahalgam terror attack that occurred in April 2025 in Jammu and Kashmir was a focal point at the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva. An international civil society group demanded global accountability for terrorism and strict action against those responsible.
During the session, Yasser Laroussi, a representative of the Eco Fon Society, urged the international community to strengthen its response to terrorism and hold accountable those who attack innocent civilians.
Laroussi paid tribute to the victims of the attack in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, describing it as a “ruthless assault” against humanity. He emphasized that deliberately targeting civilians is a serious violation of international human rights law and humanitarian principles.
Addressing the UNHRC, Laroussi stated that terrorism, in all its forms, poses a direct threat to universal rights such as life, liberty, and personal security, undermining human dignity and civil order.
He remarked, “Violence against innocent civilians can never be justified under any political, ideological, or strategic pretext.”
Laroussi also warned that support or refuge provided to terrorist organizations across borders could escalate threats to international peace and the sovereignty of nations.
He appealed to member states to ensure that terrorists do not escape punishment and to take stringent actions against those who provide refuge, financial assistance, or other support to terrorist groups.
According to reports, this intervention reiterated the organization’s commitment to protecting victims of terrorism, safeguarding human rights, and strengthening international accountability mechanisms.
It is noteworthy that on April 22, 2025, Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked Pahalgam, killing 26 innocent tourists. This incident is considered one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The attack was claimed by the Pakistan-based terrorist organization TRF, which is regarded as a proxy group of Lashkar-e-Taiba and has been involved in various terrorist activities.
