Coimbatore, May 18: The renowned Flower Festival in Tamil Nadu has officially commenced, drawing thousands of visitors. This vibrant event features stunning floral decorations and heritage-based artworks. Over the next 11 days, a significant influx of tourists is expected.

Held at the Government Botanical Garden in the Nilgiris district, the Flower Festival is the highlight of Udhagamandalam’s summer celebrations. Tourists from across the country and abroad are flocking to this picturesque location.

Due to this year’s election schedule, only select events are being hosted, including the Rose Show and Flower Show in Udhagamandalam, as well as the Fruit Show in Coonoor.

The Rose Show at the Government Rose Garden has been ongoing since May 14, showcasing an impressive display created with approximately 200,000 roses. A floral sculpture shaped like a bird has emerged as a major attraction among visitors.

The historic 128th Flower Show at the Botanical Garden will run until May 28, inaugurated by Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavani. This year’s exhibition features numerous new varieties of flowering plants and seeds sourced from various countries. Special species cultivated for the event include geranium, cyclamen, balsam, decorative calyx, oriental lily, pansy, marigold, zinnia, and telmunium.

In different sections of the Botanical Garden, around one million flowering plants have been planted. The entire area is adorned with over 50,000 pots of flowers in various colors.

The exhibition also includes 26 floral sculptures representing famous landmarks and cultural symbols, such as the Udhagamandalam Mountain Railway engine, the Mamallapuram temple, and the Tiruvaiyaru temple chariot.

Authorities have declared a local holiday in the Nilgiris district and deployed 200 police officers, while special transportation services have been arranged for tourists.
