Abu Dhabi, March 9: The UAE has claimed to have intercepted Iranian missiles, with debris falling onto a tower in Dubai Marina. This incident caused smoke to rise from the front of the building, creating a brief atmosphere of concern in the area. Authorities confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control, and there were no reports of injuries.
UAE officials stated that the damage was caused by debris that fell after the air defense system successfully intercepted the incoming threat.
The Dubai government’s official social media account posted on ‘X’, stating, “Authorities have confirmed that a minor incident occurred on the exterior of a tower in Dubai Marina due to debris from a successful interception. The situation is under control, and no injuries have been reported.”
Earlier, the UAE’s Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense systems were actively responding to missile and drone threats from Iran. The ministry posted on ‘X’, saying, “Air defense is currently responding to missile and drone threats coming from Iran.”
The statement further explained, “The sounds being heard are the result of intercepting missiles and drones by the air defense system.”
According to the ministry, a total of 16 ballistic missiles were detected during the incident. Of these, 15 were successfully intercepted by the air defense system, while the remaining missiles fell into the sea. Additionally, authorities tracked 121 drones approaching the country, with 119 of them destroyed before reaching their targets.
Amid rising tensions, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan addressed the nation on Abu Dhabi TV. This was his first public statement since the escalation of conflict. He emphasized that the country is in a state of war and will emerge stronger.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian apologized to neighboring countries for attacks carried out during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. However, he stated that Iran would not initiate further attacks unless provoked.
In his address broadcast on Iranian state television, Pajeshkian said, “On behalf of myself and Iran, I apologize to those neighboring countries that have been attacked by Iran. The interim leadership council has agreed that no further attacks will be made on neighboring countries, and no missiles will be launched unless Iran is attacked by those nations.”
Responding to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for unconditional surrender, Pajeshkian stated that Iran’s enemies would have to carry their desire for the unconditional surrender of the Iranian people to their graves.
