U.S. Submarine Sinks Iranian Warship in Indian Ocean: A Historic Military Action

Washington, March 4: A U.S. Navy submarine has sunk an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean during the ongoing conflict with Iran. This marks the first time since World War II that an American submarine has employed a torpedo to destroy an enemy warship, as confirmed by senior U.S. military officials on Wednesday.

The attack occurred during Operation Epic Fury, a U.S.-led initiative aimed at targeting Iran’s missile and naval capabilities. In a Pentagon press briefing, Secretary of the Navy Pete Hegseth stated that this incident showcases the reach of U.S. naval power.

“Indeed, yesterday, a U.S. submarine sank an Iranian warship that believed it was safe in international waters. This vessel was sunk by a torpedo attack, marking the first occurrence of its kind since World War II,” Hegseth said.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Dan Ken, also confirmed the attack, describing it as a rare and significant naval operation. Ken stated, “For the first time since 1945, a U.S. fast-attack submarine used a single Mark 48 torpedo to effectively sink an enemy warship, which has now gone to the depths of the ocean.”

According to the Pentagon, the Iranian vessel was outside the main conflict zone when it was targeted. Ken emphasized that this attack demonstrates the U.S. military’s capability to track and destroy enemy ships even far from the primary battlefield.

He remarked, “Only the United States can locate and eliminate distant enemy forces on this scale.” This action is part of a broader campaign aimed at weakening Iran’s naval power. U.S. officials report that over 20 Iranian naval vessels have been destroyed during the conflict so far.

Ken noted, “We are dismantling the Iranian Navy, reducing its capabilities and operational power.” The Pentagon stated that this naval operation is being conducted to ensure that Iran does not jeopardize maritime trade routes or expand its military power.

Allied forces, including Israel, are participating in this campaign, with U.S. aircraft carriers and strike groups actively deployed throughout the region. U.S. military officials indicate that neutralizing Iran’s naval strength is one of the primary objectives of this operation, alongside the destruction of ballistic missile systems and military bases.
