U.S. Secretary of State to Visit Israel Following Modis Trip

Washington, February 28: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to travel to Israel on March 2-3, 2026. The announcement was made by the U.S. State Department on Friday.

State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott outlined the purpose of Rubio’s visit, which will focus on a range of regional priorities, including ongoing efforts to implement President Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Iran, Lebanon, and Gaza.

This announcement comes immediately after Modi’s trip to Tel Aviv, which garnered significant attention from India, Israel, and the United States.

While the State Department did not explicitly link the two events, the timing highlights active diplomatic engagement in the West Asian region. The Trump administration views India as a key player in this area, given its strong relationships with all relevant parties.

Rubio’s discussions are likely to center on Iran’s regional role, the delicate situation in Lebanon, and diplomatic efforts concerning Gaza. The mention of President Trump’s “20-point peace plan for Gaza” indicates that Washington is moving forward with a structured approach aimed at stabilizing the region.

The U.S. has long been Israel’s closest ally and is deeply involved in West Asian diplomacy. Gaza has faced repeated conflicts over the past decade, necessitating ongoing engagement from Washington and other international stakeholders.

India, Israel, and the U.S. have formed a new group called I2U2, in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), aimed at fostering peace and ambitious cooperation in the region.
