Cairo, July 19: The United States launched a missile strike on the outskirts of Abadan, a city in Iran’s Khuzestan province, on Sunday. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties from this attack.
According to the semi-official news agency Tasnim, citing a provincial official on the social media platform X, Abadan is home to Iran’s oldest oil refinery and borders Iraq. This strike follows a similar attack by the U.S. earlier this week.
Reports from the Xinhua news agency indicate that Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain reported that Iran conducted airstrikes targeting their territories on Sunday. In response, the U.S. has relocated its refueling aircraft from southern Israel.
Jordan’s state television reported that its air defense system intercepted three missiles launched by Iran before they could enter Jordanian territory. A fourth missile landed in a deserted area of southern Jordan, causing no injuries or damage.
Some media reports suggest that these missiles were aimed at U.S. military aircraft located in Aqaba, Jordan’s southern coastal city, which directly borders Israel’s Eilat.
Following these events, Israeli Channel 13 reported that the U.S. military withdrew its refueling planes from Ramon Airport in southern Israel, located about 18 kilometers north of Eilat. According to Israel’s Kan TV News, flights for passengers at the airport experienced delays due to the attacks.
Earlier on Sunday, the U.S. Embassy in Amman issued a security alert, stating that Aqaba’s airport and port were evacuated due to a “specific and credible threat.” The embassy advised American citizens against traveling to these locations until further notice.
The embassy also reiterated warnings for U.S. citizens to stay away from military installations in Jordan.
However, Jordanian officials later dismissed the U.S. Embassy’s claims, asserting that both the airport and port were operating normally.
On the same day, Kuwaiti officials reported that Iranian forces attacked a power generation and desalination plant for the second time in two days, causing a fire that disrupted electricity production.
