U.S. Military Launches 90-Minute Assault on Iranian Targets

Washington, July 16: The cycle of attacks between the United States and Iran has reignited. The U.S. Central Command announced early Thursday morning (Indian Standard Time) that the U.S. military conducted a 90-minute barrage against Iran on Wednesday local time.

The U.S. Central Command shared details of the assault on the social media platform X, stating, “At 3 PM (local time), the U.S. military initiated operations for a second wave of attacks against Iran. These strikes targeted Iranian military capabilities used to threaten vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.”

According to reports from the Xinhua news agency, the U.S. Central Command had indicated on Wednesday (local time) that it began its offensive against Iran at 6 AM Eastern Time.

The U.S. maintained its assault on Iran for 90 minutes, during which precise strikes were executed on coastal defense systems and cruise missile storage and launch sites on Greater Tumb Island.

In response, Iran retaliated against U.S. attacks. Iranian forces have targeted U.S. assets and bases in Gulf countries. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Wednesday that it had launched counterattacks on U.S. military bases in Bahrain and Jordan, hitting their military infrastructure, aircraft shelters, command centers, and strategic drones.

The IRGC stated that its aerospace forces targeted a U.S. military base in Al-Azraq, Jordan, in retaliation for the new U.S. assaults. The official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that the attacks destroyed shelters housing U.S. F-15, F-16, and F-35 fighter jets, as well as several MQ-9 strategic drones stationed at the base.

The IRGC claimed that significant attacks had been launched against Iran from the U.S. base in Jordan. Following the strikes, Iran urged the Jordanian people to eliminate the presence of U.S. forces in their country and prevent their territory from being used as a launchpad for attacks against Islamic nations and Palestinian people.

The IRGC also called on the Jordanian populace to seize every opportunity to destroy U.S. institutions and expel the occupying U.S. military from Jordan.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that Iran has allowed an American citizen, wrongfully detained during Joe Biden’s presidency in December 2024, to leave the country. The individual is now safely out of Iran and in good condition. The United States appreciates Iran’s goodwill in this matter.

The IRGC reported that its navy attacked U.S. facilities of the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, targeting the NSI management center, large warehouses for military parts and equipment, command and control centers, and fuel storage facilities.

According to IRNA, these attacks were a response to the U.S. deploying naval forces in the Indian Ocean and blocking maritime routes under the pretext of controlling the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. has resumed its naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. Following this, the U.S. Navy conducted multiple attacks against Iran on Tuesday.

Late Tuesday night, the U.S. military stated that it had launched a seven-hour assault on dozens of military targets, including missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, and coastal defense systems near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian coastal areas.
