Washington, April 26: President Donald Trump has canceled the visit of his special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to Pakistan. They were scheduled to meet with Iranian officials for potential peace talks.
Trump confirmed this decision on the social media platform Truth Social, stating, “I have canceled my representatives’ trip to Pakistan, where they were to meet with the Iranians. The trip would waste a lot of time, and there is much work to be done.”
He further commented on the internal chaos in Iran’s leadership, saying, “They don’t even know who is in charge. We hold all the cards; they have nothing.”
Trump concluded, “If they want to talk, they just need to call.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, has completed his visit to Pakistan. Following his departure, efforts to reach an agreement to end hostilities appear stalled.
In a social media post, Araghchi praised Pakistan’s role, stating that its goodwill efforts and attempts at brotherhood are crucial for restoring peace in the region. He mentioned, “I have presented Iran’s stance on a practical framework for permanently ending the war. Now, we will see if the U.S. is genuinely serious about diplomacy.”
Previously, Iran had refused to engage in talks with the U.S., leading to the cancellation of the second round of discussions last week. However, Iran has since attempted to resume negotiations.
Amid escalating tensions, Tehran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, while the U.S. has blocked Iranian ports. Notably, the first talks regarding a ceasefire between Iran and the U.S. took place in Pakistan but were unsuccessful.
