Washington, March 6: The United States has indicated that its military campaign against Iran, dubbed “Operation Epic Fury,” may escalate in the coming days. U.S. and Israeli forces are preparing to intensify attacks aimed at dismantling Tehran’s military capabilities and missile infrastructure.
During a press conference at the U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the operation has already inflicted significant damage on Iran’s military capabilities. He praised CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper and over 50,000 American service members involved in the mission.
Hegseth remarked, “In just a few days of Operation Epic Fury, you and your team have executed highly dangerous precision strikes, neutralizing large portions of Iran’s navy, rendering it ineffective in combat, and dominating the skies and seas we operate in.”
In the same conference, Hegseth told reporters, “We are made for this fight, and we are here to win.” Admiral Cooper noted that the campaign has entered its sixth day and is continuously degrading Iran’s military capacity.
He added, “We are now commencing the sixth day of a historic mission to eliminate Iran’s ability to threaten Americans.” According to Cooper, U.S. air power has conducted extensive strikes within Iranian territory. “In just the last 72 hours, U.S. bomber forces have targeted nearly 200 sites in Iran, including areas around Tehran,” he stated.
Cooper further explained, “American stealth bombers have targeted robust missile facilities. In just the last hour, U.S. B-2 bombers dropped dozens of 2,000-pound penetrator bombs on buried ballistic missile launchers.”
The U.S. military has also targeted Iranian military infrastructure related to space and missile operations. Cooper mentioned, “Specifically, we have struck at par with Iran’s space command, reducing their capability to threaten Americans.”
U.S. officials reported a rapid decline in Iranian missile and drone activities due to the attacks. Cooper noted, “Since the first day, there has been a 90% reduction in ballistic missile attacks and an 83% decrease in drone strikes.” Naval operations have also intensified during the campaign.
Cooper stated, “You may have heard the President say we have sunk or destroyed 24 ships. That was true at the time, but now that number has exceeded 30. Just in the last few hours, we targeted an Iranian drone carrier ship, roughly the size of a World War II aircraft carrier, which is currently ablaze as we speak. The operation is now focused on eliminating Iran’s missile production capabilities.”
Cooper added, “The President has tasked us with another mission: to dismantle or severely weaken Iran’s ballistic missile industrial infrastructure. We are not just targeting their existing weapons but also eliminating their capacity to produce such weapons again.”
Hegseth emphasized that the U.S. has sufficient resources to sustain this operation long-term and increase military presence in the region if necessary. “We have such a stockpile of both defensive and offensive weapons that we can continue this operation for as long as needed,” he said.
He also confirmed that U.S. and Israeli forces will continue to collaborate to increase pressure on Iran. Cooper remarked, “We are fighting to win with the combined combat power of the U.S. and Israel.”
Hegseth dismissed online rumors regarding an American fighter jet being shot down, stating, “As CENTCOM has reported, these claims of an F-15 being downed are false. They are lies that will continue; CENTCOM will keep disproving these falsehoods.”
The pace and timing of the U.S. campaign will be determined by its capabilities, according to Hegseth. “Our capabilities are substantial and still growing, which means our timeline is ours to control,” he stated.
The Pentagon noted that this operation has garnered increasing support from countries across the region. Cooper mentioned, “This is now the 12th country that Iran has attacked. These 12 countries are not very pleased, and I look forward to working with all partners willing to support us.”
It is noteworthy that following rising tensions with Iran and attacks on U.S. forces and allies in the region, the U.S. launched Operation Epic Fury on February 28. This conflict has rapidly escalated into a significant military confrontation involving U.S. and allied forces operating in the Middle East.
Iran’s nuclear program and ballistic missile development have long been a source of international concern. The U.S. has repeatedly warned that it will not allow Tehran to acquire the capability to develop nuclear weapons, a sentiment echoed by Israel. However, Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are for civilian purposes.
