U.S. Ambassador Meets ICC President During T20 World Cup Match

Mumbai, February 8: Sergio Gore, the U.S. Ambassador to India, met with ICC President Jay Shah at Wankhede Stadium during the T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and the USA.

Following their meeting, Gore expressed his excitement on X, stating, “It was great to meet ICC President Jay Shah today at the T20 World Cup. We discussed the rapid growth of cricket in the USA, supported by our world-class infrastructure, talent, and passionate fans.”

Gore also had the opportunity to meet business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and his wife, Nita Ambani. Sharing a photo with them on X, he wrote, “It was wonderful to see my friends Mukesh and Nita Ambani during the India vs. USA match at the T20 World Cup.”

Additionally, Gore posted a picture with Jay Shah and the American team, expressing pride in the U.S. cricket team. He noted, “Tonight’s match in Mumbai was truly thrilling.”

Cricket is gaining popularity in the USA, highlighted by their stunning victory over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.

In terms of the match, India batted first after losing the toss, but their performance was underwhelming. Apart from captain Suryakumar Yadav, no batsman made a significant contribution. Yadav, batting at number four, scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes, leading India to a total of 161 runs.

The U.S. team managed to score only 132 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, losing the match by 29 runs. For India, Mohammad Siraj took 3 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel claimed 2 wickets each. Varun Chakravarthy added 1 wicket to the tally. Suryakumar Yadav was named Player of the Match.
