Prime Minister Modi Highlights Farmers Welfare in Assam Development Initiatives

Guwahati, March 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated various development projects in Guwahati, Assam. During the event, he announced that projects worth ₹19,500 crores were launched, aimed at making Assam self-reliant in the energy sector and enhancing facilities for visitors to the state.

He emphasized that today marks a significant day for farmers across the country and for those working in Assam’s tea gardens. Earlier, over ₹18,000 crores were transferred to the accounts of millions of farmers under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Additionally, land leases were granted to numerous families associated with Assam’s tea gardens. Modi congratulated the people of Assam and all farmers nationwide.

The Prime Minister noted that many of these farmers did not have mobile phones or bank accounts before 2014. To date, over ₹4.25 lakh crores have been deposited in the accounts of these farmers. When the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was launched, the Congress party spread rumors that beneficiaries would have to repay the money after elections. However, this scheme has emerged as a crucial source of social security for marginal farmers.

Modi asserted that the welfare of farmers is paramount for the BJP-led NDA government. In contrast, Congress has consistently failed to provide direct financial assistance to farmers effectively. He recalled that when the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was introduced, Congress spread misinformation, claiming that the funds would need to be returned post-elections. Today, this scheme has become a robust means of social security for small farmers.

He further stated that nothing is more important than farmers’ interests for the BJP-NDA government. He highlighted that during Congress’s ten years in power before 2014, farmers received ₹6.5 lakh crores as MSP, whereas the current government has provided over ₹20 lakh crores in the same period.

The Prime Minister pointed out that schemes like MSP, affordable loans, crop insurance, and the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi have significantly supported farmers. Moreover, the government has ensured that international crises do not adversely affect agriculture.
