
Jaipur, 8 December (Daily Kiran) β In a serious excise duty evasion case, the Economic Offences Court, Jaipur Metropolitan II, sentenced accused Jagdish Saini, resident of Baswa district (Dausa), to two years of simple imprisonment along with a fine of one lakh rupees. The case had been pending since 2010.
According to Alwar CGST Commissioner Sumit Yadav, Jagdish Saini had installed machinery for manufacturing paan masala and gutkha without registration in a rented house in 2010. He produced and sold pouches under the brands Deepak and Mama. During this period, he evaded central excise duty amounting to approximately Rs 31.67 lakh. The Anti-Evasion Branch conducted the investigation. The department filed a complaint in the Economic Court, Jaipur, in 2014. After a lengthy trial process, thorough examination of evidence, documents, and witnesses, the court recognized this as a serious economic offence carried out with a white-collar approach.
The court found the accused guilty under Section 9(1)(ii) of the Central Excise Act, 1944, and imposed imprisonment and financial penalty. Special Public Prosecutor Kamal Kant Vyas represented the department and successfully argued the case.
