Two Women Trapped Under Collapsed Well in Madhya Pradesh, Rescue Operations Underway

Rajgarh, June 17: Two women, a mother and daughter-in-law, were trapped under the debris of a collapsed well in Rajgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 1 PM in the small village of Bamangaon Chhoti, located in the Khilchipur tehsil, while a new well was being dug in a field. Suddenly, a portion of soil and stones collapsed, burying the women beneath.

The victims, identified as Rupa (60) and Pinky (30), were standing near the well when it gave way. Rupa is the mother of a local Panchayat member, while Pinky is his wife.

The collapse has caused panic in the village. Residents rushed to the scene and initiated rescue efforts even before police and administrative teams arrived.

Officials reported that the rescue operation began immediately, with three JCB machines deployed to remove the debris. A Poclain machine was also brought in to expedite the rescue efforts.

An ambulance from Khilchipur Hospital has been kept on standby to provide immediate medical assistance once the women are rescued.

Police and district administration officials are overseeing the rescue operation, with villagers assisting in the efforts. Authorities emphasized that reaching the trapped individuals as quickly as possible is the top priority. The rescue operation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in Panna district just weeks earlier, where five laborers died after a well collapsed on May 26, although two others were rescued. The victims were working on a public irrigation well constructed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) when a large portion of soil gave way, trapping them inside.
