Two Transformer Thieves Injured in Police Encounter in Mathura

Mathura, June 13: In a significant breakthrough, the police in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, successfully apprehended two notorious transformer thieves during a late-night encounter on June 12. The suspects were injured in the exchange of gunfire, sustaining gunshot wounds to their legs.

Authorities recovered two illegal firearms, ammunition, a white Scorpio vehicle without a license plate, and tools used for transformer theft from the scene.

According to police sources, around 11:05 PM on June 12, the police received credible information from a tip-off regarding the movement of two wanted criminals, who were heading towards the Jait Minor Bamme area on Ramtaal Road. The suspects were reportedly planning another theft. Acting swiftly, the police cordoned off the area.

Upon being surrounded, the criminals opened fire on the police. In the retaliatory fire, both suspects were shot in the legs. The injured individuals have been identified as Anil alias Pushpendra (28) and Yogesh alias Tipu (29), both residents of Firozabad. They were transported to a hospital in Vrindavan after receiving initial medical treatment.

The police recovered a significant cache of items from the encounter site, including two illegal pistols (.315 bore), two cartridges, three spent shells, the white Scorpio vehicle, and various nuts, bolts, ropes, and tools used in transformer thefts.

Investigations revealed that both suspects have extensive criminal records. They face multiple charges under the Electricity Act and various sections of the BNS in the Jait and Jamunapar police stations in Mathura. Anil has previous cases registered against him at the Nagla Khangar police station in Firozabad, while Yogesh has been implicated in assault and other crimes at the Linepar police station.

The station chief confirmed that legal action is underway against the suspects. The police are actively searching for their gang members and associates. This successful operation is expected to curb transformer theft incidents in the district.
