Tragic Bus Accident in Chhatarpur Claims One Life and Injures Fifteen Workers

Chhatarpur, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, when a bus carrying workers for the Ken-Betwa Link Project suffered a brake failure near the Dhodhan Dam. In a desperate attempt to save themselves, several workers jumped from the moving vehicle, leading to one fatality and around fifteen injuries. All injured individuals were transported to the district hospital for treatment.

The accident happened around 7:30 PM as the workers were returning home after their shift. One injured worker, Ramesh Kumar, recounted the events, stating, “We got off work and boarded the bus, which was initially parked. As it moved forward, it stopped on a slope to pick up more passengers when suddenly the brakes failed.”

According to Ramesh, the bus had approximately 40 to 45 passengers on board. Once the brakes failed, the bus accelerated unexpectedly. The driver shouted that the brakes were malfunctioning, and with a river nearby, panic ensued among the passengers fearing the bus would plunge into the water. In the chaos, many workers began jumping off the moving bus.

Another injured worker, Krishna Singh, shared his experience, saying, “We were waiting for the bus after our shift. It was parked on a slope when the driver informed us that the brakes had failed. In a rush, he continued driving, and we had to jump to save ourselves.”

Krishna noted that the bus did not overturn; instead, workers leaped off to escape. “About 20 to 25 people jumped from the bus. Many sustained head injuries, and some suffered broken bones. The more severely injured were taken away by ambulance. Sadly, one of our colleagues died in the incident. The bus itself is now secure,” he added.

Dr. Roshan Dwivedi from the district hospital provided an update on the situation. He reported, “We received information about the accident between 9 and 10 PM. Around 10 to 15 injured individuals were brought to us. All received first aid, but unfortunately, one person did not survive.”

Dr. Dwivedi confirmed that a total of 15 workers were admitted to the hospital, with one deceased, while the remaining 14 are currently stable. He clarified that all the injured are male, with no women involved in the incident.
