Two-Day Safety Audit Kicks Off in Jammu Division to Enhance Rail Safety Standards

Jammu, June 24: In a bid to prioritize passenger safety, the Northern Railway is conducting a two-day inter-divisional safety audit in the Jammu division from June 24 to 25. This critical audit is part of the Northern Railway’s ongoing efforts to ensure safety standards are met.

The audit will be led by Chief Safety Commissioner Neeraj Gupta, with senior officials from five key railway departments—Traffic, Signal, Electrical, Engineering, and Mechanical—participating. Administrative officials from the Jammu division will also join the inspection team.

The primary goal of this audit is to conduct a thorough evaluation of all safety processes, equipment, and standards related to railway operations. It aims to identify potential shortcomings and implement necessary corrective measures to achieve the railway’s ‘zero accident’ target.

During the inspection, the team will conduct a detailed review of the Jammu railway station premises and its yard. This will include assessing the condition of platforms, foot overbridges, waiting areas, toilets, and other passenger amenities, as well as the signaling and telecommunication systems, track fittings, and the functionality of points and crossings.

Additionally, the audit team will visit the running lobby, where they will directly engage with locomotive pilots and guards. This interaction will focus on reviewing their working conditions, rest facilities, adherence to safety protocols, and preparedness for emergencies.

Following this, the team will inspect various yards within the Jammu division, which will include checking the loading and unloading of freight trains, shunting of wagons, yard lighting, availability of fire safety equipment, and compliance with safety regulations by staff.

Moreover, a structural safety audit of the division’s critical railway bridges will also be conducted, which will involve a comprehensive review of the bridges’ integrity, track fittings, and maintenance standards.

On this occasion, Jammu Division Railway Manager Vivek Kumar stated that such inter-divisional safety audits ensure compliance with safety standards set by the Railway Board and enhance safety awareness among employees. He emphasized that technical suggestions provided by the audit team will be prioritized for implementation to make rail operations safer, smoother, and more reliable.
