Raipur, June 16: The Durga police in Chhattisgarh have arrested two key suspects in the theft of 250 tons of scrap from the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP). Sanjay Singh, the main accused, and his accomplice Pintu, also known as Upendra Ojha, were apprehended on Tuesday after being on the run for an extended period. Both suspects are currently in police custody for a seven-day remand for further questioning.
The duo was involved in the illegal transportation of stolen scrap under the guise of transporting flue dust. Prior to this, police had already arrested eight other individuals connected to the case. During the operation, authorities seized approximately ₹3.22 crore worth of goods, including 250 tons of iron plates and beams.
A special team from the Old Bhilai police captured the main suspect in Uttar Pradesh. Investigators expect to uncover more significant revelations from the questioning of the arrested individuals.
The police had previously announced a reward of ₹10,000 each for information leading to the capture of Sanjay Singh and his son, Abhay Singh. Continuous raids and technical surveillance ultimately led to the arrest of the primary suspect, although the search for his son Abhay Singh is still ongoing.
