Twisha Case: Family Despairs Over Justice as Police Pressure Mounts

Bhopal, May 20: The father of Twisha Sharma, Navnidhi Sharma, expressed on Wednesday that the family has lost all hope of receiving justice from the Bhopal administration, police, and judiciary. He accused authorities of deliberately delaying the process to allow Twisha’s body to decompose.

In an interview, Navnidhi Sharma stated, “These individuals (the accused) have succeeded in their intentions. We feared that the delay in permitting a second autopsy was intentional, and that is exactly what has happened.”

On Wednesday, the police station in Katara Hills, Bhopal, sent a letter to the Sharma family urging them to retrieve Twisha’s remains from AIIMS Bhopal. The police explained that the hospital requires a temperature of minus 80 degrees Celsius to preserve the body, a facility that is not available at the hospital.

Reacting to this, Twisha’s father remarked, “They have succeeded in letting the body decompose. Today, the Bhopal administration also stated that they are no longer capable of preserving the body. This feels like torture to us. We are being forced to take the body away.”

He described the situation as a “black mark on the justice system,” asserting, “A deliberately prolonged judicial process was initiated to ensure the body decomposed. No one took suo moto cognizance. We were shuffled from one court to another, allowing Giribala Singh to achieve his goals, and that is what ultimately transpired.”

Navnidhi Sharma mentioned that the family wishes to conduct the autopsy in Delhi to ensure it is done at a nationally recognized medical institution.

He alleged that the Bhopal police, administration, and judicial system have provided no support to the family. “It seems that the judges are fully cooperating with the accused. We now have no hope of receiving justice in Bhopal,” he added.

The family has consistently demanded an independent medical opinion from a major national institution outside Madhya Pradesh to restore public trust in the investigation process.

Notably, Twisha’s autopsy was conducted on May 13 at AIIMS Bhopal, and her body has been kept in the hospital’s mortuary since then.

The family has refused to take the body until their demand for a second autopsy is met. In this regard, they filed a petition in the Bhopal magistrate court on Tuesday, requesting a second autopsy at AIIMS Delhi. The family’s arguments have been presented, and they were awaiting the court’s order by Wednesday.
