New Delhi, August 19: In a bid to boost investment, technology, and industrial collaboration between Uttar Pradesh and Japan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized the importance of making Japanese technology and expertise accessible to Indian farmers during the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026. He highlighted Uttar Pradesh as a strong destination for Japanese companies looking to invest.
Chouhan stated that the partnership between India and Japan should extend beyond mere investment. It should benefit farmers, youth, and the rural economy. India boasts a vast market, a large youth population, and significant agricultural potential. Collaborating with Japan could unlock new opportunities in agriculture through technological and industrial cooperation. He urged Japanese industries and institutions to develop technology and machinery that are useful and easily accessible for small and marginal farmers.
The minister noted that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a robust destination for global investment due to its large consumer market, skilled human resources, improved connectivity, rapidly developing infrastructure, and investment-friendly policies. Japan is a key partner for Uttar Pradesh, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent visit to Japan has further strengthened ties between the two. Uttar Pradesh is rich in power, tradition, talent, infrastructure, investment, innovation, and market potential. Chouhan called on the Japanese industry to combine Japan’s technological expertise with Uttar Pradesh’s talent and market opportunities to create unlimited new avenues for employment, innovation, and sustainable growth.
He stressed the need for technology that enhances farmers’ productivity while reducing water consumption and production costs, ultimately increasing farmers’ income. Research in agriculture should directly benefit the fields, transforming findings into products and technologies that farmers can easily adopt.
Chouhan also emphasized connecting rural youth with agricultural technology. He mentioned that new agricultural machinery and technology could create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for rural youth in operations, maintenance, and related businesses. This would enable young people in villages to become active participants in the development journey rather than mere spectators. He called for Japan’s support in making India a global center for agricultural technology, advocating for better synergy between agriculture and manufacturing to develop useful technologies for farmers.
Chouhan described the relationship between India and Japan as a strong partnership between two nations and cultures. He asserted that India’s spiritual and cultural strength, combined with Japan’s technical proficiency and industrial capability, could pave the way for new developmental paths. The partnership with Japan should not be viewed solely from an investment perspective; long-term collaboration in technology, innovation, skill development, manufacturing, and employment is crucial.
Notably, the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 is being held from August 18 to 23 in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, featuring over 200 Japanese industrialists, CEOs, business representatives, and policymakers. The meet presents investment opportunities in advanced technology, green hydrogen, renewable energy, electric mobility, semiconductors, automotive components, digital infrastructure, skill development, and tourism for Japanese companies.
