Trump Welcomes King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the White House

New Delhi, April 29: During a special state ceremony at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom. This marks the first official visit by a British monarch in nearly 20 years.

Upon their arrival, members of the Cabinet greeted King Charles III and Queen Camilla, with the UK national anthem played in their honor.

During the state arrival ceremony, President Trump and King Charles III inspected the assembled troops at the White House.

President Trump expressed gratitude to the royal couple, recalling the splendid honor they received during their visit to Windsor Castle last September. He stated, “It is a great privilege for us to host you both now.”

In his address, President Trump remarked that honoring the British king might seem unusual as the U.S. celebrates 250 years of independence, but he emphasized that there is no more fitting tribute. He noted that long before Americans had their own country or constitution, they possessed a culture, character, and principle, which were gifts from a small yet powerful empire across the sea.

Pointing to a tree planted in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth, President Trump said, “Today, this tree stands tall and proud, reaching new heights; it reminds us that, like the mightiest trees, the foundations of the greatest nations must rest on the strongest and deepest roots.”

He also shared a personal memory about his mother’s affection for the royal family, saying, “I remember her often saying, ‘Charles! Look! Little Charles! How adorable he is!’ My mother had a crush on Charles. Can you believe it?”

Trump concluded by reflecting on the unique bond between the nations, recalling a meeting eight decades ago between Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Franklin Roosevelt aboard a ship in the North Atlantic, where they envisioned a free world post-World War II. He stated, “This understanding of our role in the unique bond and history between our nations is the essence of our special relationship, and we hope it remains so forever.”
