Washington, February 13: President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, urging the nation to finalize a nuclear agreement promptly or face severe repercussions. Trump emphasized that failure to reach a deal could lead to “very painful” circumstances.

During a press briefing at the White House, Trump stated, “We must reach an agreement; otherwise, the situation will become very difficult and painful. I do not want that, but a deal is essential.”

When asked about the timeline for negotiations, Trump indicated that the process should not drag on for too long. He suggested that a decision should be made within the next month, urging Iran to come to an agreement quickly.

Trump made it clear that if talks fail, conditions could deteriorate further. He remarked, “If an agreement is not reached, the story will be different.” He added that if the deal is not fair and beneficial, Iran could face very tough times ahead.

This statement follows a meeting Trump had with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump noted, “Our meeting went well, and Netanyahu understands the situation, but the final decision rests with me.”

When questioned whether Netanyahu wanted him to halt negotiations, Trump replied that he would continue discussions as long as he deemed it appropriate. He also mentioned that if no agreement is reached, “Phase 2” would commence, which would be very harsh for Iran. However, he did not clarify what actions would be taken in “Phase 2.”

Trump’s comments indicate that while the U.S. seeks to maintain dialogue, it is also applying pressure on Iran.

Iran’s nuclear program remains a central flashpoint in the Middle East. During Trump’s first term, the U.S. withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal, leading to ongoing tensions over uranium enrichment levels and regional security between the two nations.

For India, stability in the Gulf region is economically and strategically crucial. India imports a significant portion of its crude oil from West Asia and has a large number of citizens residing in the area. An escalation of tensions between the U.S. and Iran could impact oil markets and regional security.
