Washington, April 27: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed that he was not concerned during the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. However, he acknowledged that First Lady Melania Trump was quite shaken by the event.
In an interview, President Trump stated, “I had no worries. I understand life. We live in a crazy world.” He recounted his reaction as security personnel escorted him out.
Trump mentioned that he initially tried to assess the situation before following the Secret Service’s instructions. He said, “I wanted to see what was happening. The security personnel told me to please duck down and lie on the floor. So, I lay down. The First Lady also got on the ground.”
Regarding Melania Trump, the President noted, “She seemed very upset about what happened. Who wouldn’t be in such a situation? She handled it very well. She knew what was going on.”
During the incident, President Trump praised the swift actions of the agencies involved. He highlighted how quickly the suspect was subdued, stating, “He (the attacker) was very cunning, but they (the security personnel) took him down immediately.”
Trump also commented on the young suspect’s breach of security, saying, “These people are not foolish; they understand things quickly. The attacker was quite clumsy, which is why he was caught.”
Despite the incident, Trump expressed a desire for the event to continue, hoping it would be rescheduled soon.
It is noteworthy that the shooting involved a 31-year-old suspect who breached security to enter the venue. Over 2,500 guests attended the dinner, including President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, the Vice President, and senior officials. Security personnel apprehended the suspect immediately after the shooting. Investigative agencies are currently questioning the 31-year-old suspect.
