Trump Signals Potential Shift in U.S. Policy on Strait of Hormuz Security

Washington, April 1: President Donald Trump has indicated that the United States may change its policy regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that once the U.S. concludes its current military operations, the responsibility for securing this vital maritime route may fall to other nations.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump noted that after the ongoing military actions against Iran are completed, the U.S. will no longer maintain its role in securing this strategic waterway.

He clearly stated, “What happens to the Strait of Hormuz is not our concern.” This suggests that the U.S. might withdraw its security responsibilities in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is crucial for global trade, as a significant amount of oil passes through it daily. Trump emphasized that countries benefiting from this route should take on the responsibility of its security. He mentioned, “This task will fall to France or other nations that utilize this passage.”

He also referenced major energy-consuming countries like China, saying, “China will fuel its ships and ensure its own security.”

Trump asserted that the U.S. has significantly mitigated threats in the region. He remarked, “We have taken decisive action and eliminated many extremist elements around the Strait.”

He expressed confidence that conditions would normalize after the withdrawal of U.S. forces. Trump stated, “When we leave, the situation will have improved considerably.”

He also noted that there has been an uptick in maritime traffic. “Today, I received information that a large number of ships are passing through this route,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that the waterway may still pose risks. Trump’s statements indicate that the U.S. may reduce its naval presence in this highly sensitive maritime area and expects other nations to assume greater responsibility.
