Trump Praises PM Modi as a Strong Negotiator at G7 Summit

Avignon, June 17: U.S. President Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a press conference on Wednesday. He described Modi as one of the world’s strongest and toughest negotiators. Trump emphasized that under Modi’s leadership, India will continue to play a significant role on the global stage.

During a bilateral meeting at the G7 summit in France, Trump highlighted his personal relationship with Modi and the strengthening ties between India and the United States. He stated, “We had a very good conversation with Prime Minister Modi. Many positive developments are happening between the U.S. and India.”

When asked about ongoing trade negotiations between the two countries, Trump commended Modi’s negotiation skills and suggested that a trade agreement could be reached soon. “We are very close,” he remarked.

Trump noted, “PM Modi is a tough negotiator. To be honest, he is one of the hardest negotiators in the world.” He also made an interesting comment about Modi, saying, “Look at him. He is like an angel, a very good person.”

He added, “In reality, he is a very strong and tough individual. He can surprise you. His calm and simple demeanor can sometimes lead people to misunderstand him. I say he is very tough. He is extremely strong in negotiations.”

The U.S. President also praised Modi’s commitment to India and the India-U.S. relationship. Trump expressed his affection for the Indian people while also showing love for the United States.

He reminisced about the “Howdy Modi” event in Houston and his visit to India during his first term. Trump said, “Our time in India was fantastic.” He referred to the large stadium event where both leaders participated, attended by a massive crowd.

When asked if India’s role in West Asia would increase following recent diplomatic events, Trump affirmed that India’s influence will continue to grow. “I believe so. India plays a crucial role in every major issue. As long as PM Modi is in charge, India will maintain a significant role in the world.”

In response to concerns regarding recent U.S. policies affecting India, Trump reassured that the relationship between the two countries remains strong. “As long as I am President, India will have a good friend in the White House. They love India and have great respect for PM Modi.”

Trump spoke warmly about the relationship between the two nations, stating, “India can do whatever it wants with us. Our relationship is the best.”

Meanwhile, PM Modi noted that their previous meeting in Washington has given new momentum to the bilateral relationship. “Last year, we had a very successful meeting in Washington, and since then, we have infused new energy and pace into our relationship. In recent years, India and the U.S. have significantly enhanced cooperation across various sectors, including defense, trade, technology, energy, and strategic matters.”
