New Delhi, May 19: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a significant decision to postpone a military strike against Iran. This move comes at the request of top leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
Trump stated that serious negotiations are currently underway. However, he emphasized that if no agreement is reached, the U.S. military will remain fully prepared for action.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump revealed that the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE had urged him to delay the proposed military attack on Iran. He quoted the leaders, saying that serious discussions are ongoing and a deal could be reached that would be acceptable to the U.S., all Middle Eastern countries, and the rest of the world. A key aspect of this potential agreement would be that Iran would not possess nuclear weapons.
In his post, Trump expressed respect for these leaders and instructed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Daniel Ken, and the U.S. military to refrain from the planned attack on Iran.
However, he also directed them to remain ready for large-scale military action against Iran if an acceptable agreement cannot be achieved.
Previously, Trump had hinted at possible military action amid rising tensions in the Middle East, which have since escalated between the two nations. On Sunday, he wrote on social media, “Time is running out for Iran, and they must act quickly, or they will have nothing left. Time is very precious!”
According to a report by CNN, Trump discussed further strategies regarding Iran with senior national security officials. The report indicated that another meeting was expected to take place earlier this week.
