Washington, April 20: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has asserted that Israel did not provoke him to engage in a war against Iran. He made this statement on Monday via his social media platform, Truth Social. Trump also explained why he believes Iran should not be allowed to become a nuclear power.
In his post, Trump confirmed that Israel never urged him to go to war with Iran. He referenced the surprise attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, as a key reason for preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities.
Recently, some media reports indicated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pressured Trump to initiate a joint attack on Iran by the end of February. Trump dismissed these claims as false, stating, “I do not trust those spreading ‘fake news’ and conducting polls based on it. Ninety percent of what they say is lies and fabricated stories, and their polls are rigged, just like the 2020 presidential election was. Similar to the results in Venezuela, these are matters the media prefers not to discuss.”
Concluding his remarks, Trump expressed hope for a bright future for Iran. He stated that if Iran’s new leaders are “wise,” the country could have a “bright and prosperous” future.
This post comes amid uncertainties surrounding the second round of Islamabad talks. There are discussions about a U.S. delegation arriving in Pakistan’s capital, but Iran continues to distance itself, labeling the U.S. blockade in Hormuz as a ceasefire violation. Speaker MB Ghalibaf mentioned that while Iran is open to dialogue, it does not trust the United States.
