Protests Intensify in Balochistan Against Enforced Disappearances, Families Demand Release

Quetta, April 20: Protests against enforced disappearances continue to escalate in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. On Monday, a Baloch family staged a sit-in on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor highway in the Sahaki Balgtar area of Kech district, demanding the safe return of their missing relative.

According to the Baloch Unity Committee, 24-year-old farmer Abideen was allegedly abducted by Pakistani intelligence agencies from Kilkhor Road on Sunday evening. The family reports that they have had no information about him since then.

The Baloch Youth Congress (BYC) stated that these protests aim to end enforced disappearances and hold accountable those responsible for human rights violations in Balochistan. The organization claims that numerous individuals go missing or are killed every day in the province.

‘Baloch Voice for Justice’ has also expressed concern, stating that enforced disappearances are being used as tools of oppression, violating fundamental human rights and denying justice to affected families.

Meanwhile, the human rights department of the Baloch National Movement, known as ‘Pank’, revealed that on the night of April 19, security forces conducted a raid in the Panwan area of Gwadar district, abducting four more individuals. Among them are 19-year-old fisherman Sohel Karim, 20-year-old student Nadeel Baloch, 14-year-old student Dilshad Dad, and another young man, Ali Fazal.

Pank condemned the alleged abduction of 27-year-old student Ikram from Kech district on April 18, emphasizing that targeting students is deeply concerning.

Additionally, reports have emerged of young singer Mohammad Taj being taken from his home by security forces on the night of April 17 in the Shapak area of Kech. Pank stated that there has been no trace of Taj, highlighting the diminishing space for cultural and artistic expression in the region.

Human rights organizations have urged the international community to take note of these incidents and ensure the immediate release of the missing individuals.
