Agartala, June 23: Tripura has inaugurated its first public electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Agartala on Tuesday. This initiative marks a significant step towards promoting clean and sustainable transportation in the state. It will also provide convenient charging facilities for EV users.
A senior official from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) stated that as the nodal agency for the central government’s PM e-Drive scheme, the corporation has already proposed the establishment of 94 public EV charging stations across various locations in the state.
The official described this development as a major incentive for current electric vehicle owners and those planning to purchase EVs in the future. The modern public charging station, located within the Banamalipur Power House complex in Agartala, has made charging electric vehicles significantly easier.
According to TSECL officials, this charging station was established in collaboration with a private organization. They noted that it is the state’s first capital expenditure (CapEx) based public electric vehicle charging station, now open for public use.
One of the key features of this facility is its fully digital and self-service charging system. Users do not require assistance from staff to charge their vehicles; they simply need to install a designated mobile application, select their vehicle model, make an online payment, and connect the charging gun to their vehicle.
The charging process automatically begins and stops once the designated charging level is reached. The facility is equipped with a 30 kW DC fast charger and a 7.4 kW AC charger, making it suitable for both private and commercial electric vehicles.
The advanced charging infrastructure ensures fast, safe, reliable, and convenient charging services for electric vehicle users. Officials highlighted that the growing adoption of electric vehicles not only helps consumers reduce fuel costs but also plays a crucial role in minimizing environmental pollution.
