Agartala, May 15: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that healthcare is among the state’s top priorities. ASHA workers play a crucial role in delivering health services to the public across the state. The Chief Minister revealed that the government is considering an increase in the honorarium for accredited social health activists (ASHA) working in Tripura.
While inaugurating the state-level ASHA conference at the International Exhibition Ground in Hapania, which is being held after nearly nine years, Saha addressed the attendees. He stated, “People see you as a ray of hope, and you are fulfilling that responsibility.” On Thursday, he distributed around 850 appointment letters to postgraduate teachers recruited through the Tripura Teacher Recruitment Board (TRBT).
Saha emphasized that under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, people have not had to take to the streets demanding jobs. He noted that this conference is a strong example of women’s empowerment, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent focus on this issue, given that nearly 50% of the country’s population comprises women.
The Chief Minister mentioned that women have been granted the right to 33% reservation. He referred to the constitutional amendment bill for women’s empowerment, which was passed in 2023.
Saha praised the contributions of ASHA workers, stating they tirelessly serve people in both urban and rural areas. He acknowledged that since the launch of the National Health Mission in 2005, ASHA workers have played a significant role in providing health services and awareness programs at the grassroots level.
“Healthcare is one of our priority areas. The state government is continuously working to strengthen health services. ASHA workers are delivering various health benefits to every household, and there is no greater service than this. We are committed to building a new Tripura in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a ‘New India,’” he said.
The Chief Minister added, “From spreading public awareness to safeguarding maternal and child health and ensuring the successful implementation of vaccination programs, ASHA workers serve with dedication and integrity in every area. Our government is committed to protecting the rights and dignity of ASHA workers.”
He also mentioned that the state government is actively considering measures for the welfare of the 7,866 ASHA workers currently employed in the state, which includes increasing their honorarium, providing advanced training opportunities, and other welfare initiatives.
