Tragic SUV Accident in Chamba District Claims Seven Lives

Chamba, June 18: A devastating road accident occurred late Wednesday night in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the loss of seven lives. A Bolero SUV skidded off the Chamba-Masrund road and plunged into a deep gorge. The impact was so severe that all seven occupants died at the scene.

Among the deceased are four men and three women, all reported to be residents of Kuther village in Chamba district. Upon receiving news of the incident, local police and administrative teams rushed to the site. The rescue operation faced significant challenges due to the darkness and difficult terrain, but with the assistance of local residents, all bodies were retrieved from the gorge.

The deceased were sent to the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba for post-mortem examinations. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary estimates suggest that the SUV may have lost control or that road conditions could have contributed to the tragedy, although confirmation will come after further investigation.

Dinesh Kumar, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Chamba, stated that the police team collaborated with locals for the rescue efforts. He confirmed that seven individuals lost their lives and emphasized that all aspects of the incident are being examined to determine the actual causes.

Ravi Kumar, the Deputy Head of the Masrund Gram Panchayat, mentioned that the news of the accident reached them in the morning, prompting immediate assistance from local residents. He described the nighttime incident as extremely tragic, leaving a wave of mourning throughout the area.
