Tragic Road Accidents in Karnataka Claim Five Lives, Injure Over 23

Bengaluru, August 20: In Karnataka, two separate road accidents in the districts of Haveri and Mandya resulted in the deaths of at least five people, with over 23 others injured.

In a different incident in Udupi district, a private bus caught fire near Brahmavar, but fortunately, seven passengers escaped unharmed.

In Haveri district, a car collided with a stationary truck near Chalageri Cross in the early hours of Thursday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving three others critically injured. The deceased have been identified as 27-year-old Siddharth, 29-year-old Hasan Mukhi, and 51-year-old Yashoda Bai, all residents of Davanagere. The injured, including Soundarya, Sindhu, and one-year-old Kashvashri, have been admitted to a private hospital in Davanagere for treatment.

Preliminary reports indicate that the car was en route from Ranebennur to Davanagere when it struck the truck parked by the roadside. The Ranebennur rural police have registered a case and initiated an investigation, with further details awaited.

In another accident, a private sleeper bus overturned near Bellur toll in Mandya district, resulting in two fatalities and injuring 20 others. This incident occurred on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway. Reports suggest that the bus first collided with a roadside signboard before flipping over. Police suspect that speeding may have contributed to the accident. The injured have been taken to a hospital in Bellur for treatment, and the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile, in Udupi district, a fire broke out in a private bus near Brahmavar, but all seven passengers managed to escape safely. The bus was traveling from Udupi to Sagar when smoke was seen emanating from inside the vehicle. Subsequently, a fire ignited in the bus’s electrical box and began to spread.

The conductor promptly stopped the bus and evacuated all passengers, preventing a major disaster. Fire and emergency services from Udupi arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. Further information regarding the cause of the fire is awaited.
