Lucknow, August 18: A devastating road accident occurred early Tuesday on National Highway 719 in Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of eight laborers from Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Several others sustained injuries in the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and announced a financial aid of two lakh rupees for the families of the deceased.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to coordinate with the Madhya Pradesh government to ensure the transportation of the deceased’s bodies back to their home district and to facilitate proper medical care for the injured.
In a statement on the social media platform X, CM Yogi Adityanath described the accident as extremely painful, stating, “The loss of life in this unfortunate incident in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, is deeply distressing. My condolences are with the grieving families. I have directed officials to coordinate with the Madhya Pradesh government to return the bodies of the deceased citizens of Uttar Pradesh to their families and ensure proper treatment for the injured. Each family of the deceased will receive a financial assistance of two lakh rupees.”
The accident took place around 1 AM near Chhimka village in the Gohad area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver lost control of a speeding pickup truck while trying to avoid a herd of cows sitting on the highway, leading to a collision with an oncoming dumper. The impact was so severe that the pickup was extensively damaged, causing panic among the laborers onboard.
According to police reports, all the laborers were residents of Lakhimpur Kheri district. They had come to the Gwalior area for paddy transplantation work and were returning home after completing their tasks. During the return journey, the driver lost control while attempting to avoid the cows, resulting in the tragic collision.
Upon receiving news of the accident, the Gohad Chauraha police arrived at the scene. With the help of local residents, they rescued those trapped in the pickup and rushed the injured to Gohad Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared eight laborers dead upon arrival. Those with serious injuries were referred to Gwalior for advanced treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been placed in the mortuary, and police are working on identifying them and contacting their families.
The administration has also initiated the process of sending the deceased’s bodies back to their home district.
